DuPont has been using the term “New Reality”
since last summer to describe the incredible mash up of global issues that
resulted in a rapid run up of commodity and energy prices, followed by the
unwinding of the credit markets and the rapid decline of the global economy.
The range of challenges including climate change is greater than any of us
have experienced in our lifetimes.
As supply chain practitioners and professionals we are front and center of
most of these issues – whether its dealing with the aftermath of a hurricane
or managing the risk to reduce disruptions in ocean transport to working
through customer credit issues, when customers are faced with dual issues of
weak share price and tightened credit. All this in a world where complexity
is exponentially increasing in terms of global reach and demand drivers. In
this new reality we have the added challenge of the importance of making
sustainability part of our lives and our work – to live with and to counter
some of the effects of living to the edge of our means in relationship to
our environment and global community.
How do you make of sense of this new reality in planning and designing
supply chains especially as we work in a demand driven world?
At this session we will look at the increased opportunity of creating both
effective and efficient demand driven supply chain performance with the
inclusion of sustainability as a key component of supply chain performance
and design.
We will spend about an hour to:
- Establish a foundational understanding of what sustainable or
green supply chain management is about
- Demystify it and give you confidence that it is amenable to
planning and execution
- Provide some specific and actionable approaches to seeing Triple
Bottom Line (TBL) results for People, Profits, and Planet.
In the process, I hope to share some memorable stories,
anecdotes, frameworks, and have some fun
